This painting comes from a photo taken back in 2016 while overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Rough Ridge Trail. Looking out over a valley full of rolling hills as far as the eye could see, I watched as a cloud slowly formed into the most gorgeous Cumulonimbus giant. It felt oppressively large and yet floated weightlessly over the valley.
 
The following week I would be starting my first day in college, leaving my small mountain town full of views, trails, and near-endless adventure. I would be leaving all that I knew. Not only the comfort of home, but also the comfort of being a kid. It was a melancholic moment, knowing so much was about to be left behind, and yet soon a whole new world, abundant with new adventures and challenges, would open up!
